Door Sets Installation

When you purchase a door, and particularly a special purpose door such as fire doors it is important to ensure that they are correctly installed. The current standard which applies is BS8214 1990 and is titled “Fire Door Assemblies with Non Metallic Leaves”. In our opinion this is one British Standard documents which has been written in a very simple to read format with little technical jargon and therefore is a very useful tool in determining and assessing the correct installation to doors and frames.

Although the standard deals principally with a timber door within a timber frame the information and guidance within the standard is as applicable to timber doors within metal frames from the perspective of details of suitability of margins and fixings. This standard therefore remains a useful guide when using metal frames also. Principal differences would be in the suitability of certain pieces of ironmongery and intumescent detailing.
